COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — A man faces OVI and vandalism after being accused of causing over $10,000 in damages at a golf course with a semi truck.

Court documents filed by Delaware County prosecutors say Gurpreet Dhaliwal of New York was arrested at the Northstar Golf Club after deputies responded to a report of a semi-truck being driven on the golf course.

The man reportedly told deputies he was lost and could not “provide a coherent reason why he would be driving a semi-truck through a golf course.”

The semi had no license plate, but was identified through Dhaliwal’s insurance card. Deputies said it was involved in a crash the night before.

Dhaliwal allegedly entered the golf course at the clubhouse and drove through the course up to the 12th hole. The semi destroyed the 16-hole bridge, which the club superintendent estimated to be $10,000 in damages. According to the complaint, the club said it would have to close the back nine.

Dhaliwal reportedly refused to submit a breath or urine test. Prosecutors wrote in court documents that deputies found unidentified pills in the truck, which have yet to be tested.

He was arrested for felony 4th degree vandalism, and also cited for OVI and prohibited acts while driving a commercial motor vehicle.

The judge ordered him released on a $500 recognizance bond. He may only travel to and from his address in New York. A preliminary hearing is set for May 16.
