DoorDash and Wing officially launched drone delivery in Charlotte Wednesday, marking the latest milestone in their ongoing partnership.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — DoorDash officially launched drone delivery in Charlotte for the first time Wednesday, marking the company’s latest milestone in the Queen City.

The service, which is part of a partnership with Wing, is available in south Charlotte. DoorDash users who live within 4 miles of the Arboretum Shopping Center will be able to order drone delivery from several businesses, including Panera Bread. Several local restaurants are also participating in the drone delivery program. The lineup includes Curry Junction, Matcha Cafe Maiko and Joa Korean.

Wing and DoorDash have collaborated on drone delivery for several years now. The partnership is available to customers in southwest Virginia, Dallas and now Charlotte. More than 25,000 deliveries have been completed since 2022.

“Autonomous delivery will help shape the future of local logistics, and we’re proud to introduce drone delivery to Charlotte for the first time with Wing,” Harrison Shih, the head of produce for DoorDash Labs, said in a press release. “What makes this launch special isn’t just the technology, it’s the experience. Whether it’s your favorite Panera sandwich, a savory snack from DashMart, or a local matcha latte on DoorDash, there’s something special about watching your order arrive by air in minutes. DoorDash and Wing aren’t just delivering faster, we’re delivering what’s next.”

In addition to food orders, Charlotte residents in select locations can receive DashMart deliveries by drone. DashMart is a specialized offering that includes a selection of drinks, snacks and household items, promising delivery in under 15 minutes.

“Charlotte is a city that embraces technology solutions to big transportation challenges,” Wing CEO Adam Woodworth said. “We’re incredibly excited to launch Wing’s drone delivery service there and we’re grateful for the warm welcome we’ve received from the city and its residents.”
