SEATTLE — A day after a drive-by shooting at Be’er Sheva Park, the community is still reeling from the terrifying incident that left two people injured and many narrowly escaping harm.
Witnesses described the chaotic scene as gunfire erupted in the crowded park.
“All of a sudden, ‘pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop!’” one witness said, recounting the rapid succession of shots that rang out.

Another witness shared their harrowing experience: “My son was on the swing, my daughter was on the bench next to me, and I said ‘get down,’ and we dove into the wood chips.”
The shooting occurred during what was described as a beautiful May evening, with the park filled with people enjoying the sunset. An 8-year-old girl and a 76-year-old woman were grazed by bullets and required hospitalization. Both are expected to recover.
Nathan Barnes, whose young son witnessed the shooting, said, “He let me know it was the worst day of his life. And we talked about it a lot before bedtime.”
Despite the traumatic event, Barnes and his family returned to the park the following day. “I brought them back here today because I want to show them that the park is our park, and it’s fine,” he said.
As the investigation continues, police have not yet determined whether the shooting was a random act. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the Seattle Police Department immediately.
