PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. — Pierce County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a fatal major vehicle crash that occurred Tuesday, shutting down multiple traffic lanes.
“The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office is responding to a major vehicle collision with one fatality and multiple others seriously injured at the intersection of Portland Ave. E and 112th St. E,” wrote the PCSO.
The PCSO continued to note that a large main power pole was struck, and 112th St. E will be shut down in both directions for several hours until they can safely process this scene.
The PCSO said it received multiple calls shortly after 2 p.m. regarding a reckless vehicle, and it wrecked at a high rate of speed, rolling multiple times before hitting a civilian vehicle and power pole.
On Facebook, the PCSO wrote that the juvenile driver of the reckless vehicle was arrested at the scene. Deputies also confirmed that one juvenile passenger was confirmed dead.
A juvenile passenger was taken to a local hospital with “serious injuries,” while a separate juvenile passenger was taken to the hospital with “life-threatening injuries,” the PCSO confirmed.
In an update posted to their Facebook page, the PCSO confirmed that a third juvenile was injured, but the extent of his injuries was unknown.
“All involved juveniles range in age between 15-years-old and 17-years-old,” wrote the PCSO.
Lastly, a 24-year-old male civilian driver was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.
Central Pierce Fire & Rescue also responded to the scene of the crash.
“Please stay out of the area while we work through this large scene,” wrote the PCSO.
