EVERETT, Wash. — Five people were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the drug overdose death of a child in south Everett last year.
On April 24, 2024, Everett police officers went to a medical call at a home in the 1400 block of Casino Road, where a 13-month-old was not breathing.

Everett Fire Department medics treated the child and took them to the hospital, where they later died. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the cause of death was drugs/poisoning.
When officers arrived at the home, they noticed a burning smell associated with smoking fentanyl and saw small blue fentanyl pills on the floor in a common area of the home, according to the Everett Police Department (EPD).
Major Crimes Unit detectives were summoned, and a search warrant was obtained and served. During the search, investigators found drug paraphernalia in most of the home’s rooms.
After interviewing the people who lived at the home, detectives determined they knew drugs were being used there. Investigators also found video of some of the home’s residents using drugs in front of young children.
Since then, detectives continued to work the case, which led them to arrest five suspects. All were booked into the Snohomish County jail.
The EPD reminds the public that a small amount of fentanyl residue can kill a child. In addition, the pills can resemble candy to children.
