HOUSTON – Folds of Honor is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing educational scholarships to the children and spouses of fallen and disabled military service members and first responders. Founded in 2007 by Lieutenant Colonel Dan Rooney, a former F-16 pilot, the organization has expanded its reach across the United States, including a significant presence in South Texas.

The mission of Folds of Honor is clear: to ensure that the sacrifices of military families do not go unnoticed. The organization believes that education is a powerful tool for healing and empowerment, and it strives to provide opportunities for those who have sacrificed so much for their country.

In South Texas, Folds of Honor has made a profound impact by awarding scholarships to deserving students. These scholarships cover tuition, fees, and other educational expenses, allowing recipients to pursue their academic goals without the burden of financial stress.

According to the Folds of Honor website, “Since its inception in 2007, Folds of Honor has awarded over 62,000 scholarships totaling over $290 million to the spouses and children of America’s fallen and disabled service members.”

The impact of Folds of Honor in South Texas extends beyond financial assistance. The organization provides a support network for military families, connecting them with resources and services that can help them navigate the challenges they face. By fostering a sense of belonging and community, Folds of Honor helps to heal the wounds of loss and sacrifice.

If you would like to get involved, you can learn more about the Folds of Honor South Texas Chapter, volunteer at one of their golf outings or events, or donate toward their scholarship fund.

KPRC 2 and our Community partners at Energy Transfer, Houston Christian University and Exclusive Furniture are proud to feature local nonprofit organizations serving the Greater Houston area each month. Folds of Honor is our KPRC 2 Community spotlight organization for May 2025.
