David Andrews will retire after a 10-year NFL career spent entirely with the New England Patriots. And his former teammate, Julian Edelman, quickly congratulated him.
“Congrats on a helluva career DA,” the former Patriots wide receiver posted to his Instagram story. “Remember your first start. UFA, rookie year, had fired in his eyes and never looked back. Congrats brother!”
Edelman and Andrews were teammates for six seasons and won two Super Bowls together before the former retired in 2021.
The Patriots announced on Wednesday that Andrews will hold a retirement press conference on Monday at 3:30 p.m. at Gillette Stadium.
Andrews, 32, was released by the organization in March and was contemplating his future. He didn’t rule out playing still, but wasn’t sure if starting over somewhere new was what he wanted to do.
The 2024 season was a trying one for Andrews. He was limited to just four games before landing on injured reserve due to a shoulder injury that required surgery. Andrewswas hopeful to return to New England in 2025, but his time came to an end after a 4-13 season.
Andrews came to New England in 2015 as an undrafted free agent. He then became an eight-time captain and an important piece to the Patriots’ offensive line.
Now Andrews will end his career where it began.
