No. 21 Northampton (8), No. 12 Westborough (7)
The No. 21 Northampton girls lacrosse team opened the Division II state tournament with a close 8-7 road matchup against No. 12 Westborough on Friday night.
Imanni Power-Greene was a part of five of the Blue Devils’ eight goals, as she recorded four goals and one assist to help Northampton improve its record to 19-2. Teagan McDonald (two), Jenna Talbot (one), and Kaydence Braman (one) scored their team’s four remaining goals.
In net, meanwhile, Ainsley Dawson stopped seven-of-14 shots faced.
It was a close match from the beginning, as Northampton maintained a 5-4 halftime lead over Westborough. That one-goal lead made the difference, though, as both sides scored three combined goals in the second half. Abby Watson helped keep it interesting for Westborough, as she scored three of the home team’s seven goals.
And according to Northampton coach Ousmane Power-Greene, Regan Kittredge “was electrifying in the midfield,” as she recorded two goals and one assist to go along with an impressive performance on the draw and clearing at midfield.
Northampton will now move on to the D-II Round of 32, with an opponent, time, and location to be announced.
