Here’s where to observe Memorial Day in Fort Worth, Tarrant County

Looking for ways to spend the holiday weekend and honor fallen service members? Events and commemorations will be held across Tarrant County May 24-26 to remember and pay respect to those who died while serving in the United States military.

Here’s where to take part in Fort Worth and Tarrant County observances and events:

Memorial Day Service at Mount Olivet Cemetery

Participate in the 96th year of this annual commemoration. The keynote speaker will be retired Air Force Senior Master Sgt. Mary Staffeld, and Fort Worth City Council members will be in attendance along with Tarrant County Judge Tim O’Hare and Capt. Beau Hufstetler, commander of Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth.

When: 10-11 a.m. May 26

Where: Mount Olivet Cemetery, 2301 N. Sylvania Ave., Fort Worth

Admission: Free

Memorial Day observance at National Medal of Honor Museum

The museum’s lawn will be covered in flags in memory of fallen military members. Visitors are encouraged to place flags as well. 

The museum will be open and serving a holiday menu including smoked brisket sandwiches and American wagyu sausage hot dogs.

When: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. May 24-26

Where: National Medal of Honor Museum, 1861 AT&T Way, Arlington

Admission: General admission is $30 for adults; $25 for those 65 and older; $20 for veterans with ID; $15 for children between 7 and 12; and free for those under 6 and active duty military members with ID. A 50% discount is available to Arlington residents.

Fort Worth City Band performance of ‘Chords of Remembrance: Let Freedom Ring’ at Sundance Square 

Enjoy a live outdoor performance by a community concert band at this downtown venue surrounded by restaurants and shops.

When: 7-9 p.m. May 26

Where: Sundance Square Plaza, 420 Main St., Fort Worth

Admission: Free

Veterans Park Memorial Day Ceremony

Take part in the second year of this annual event that includes a wreath-laying ceremony, music by the Arlington Community Band and remarks by Mayor Jim Ross and U.S. Rep. Roger Williams. The loved ones of fallen service members are invited to place a poppy flower in the wreath.

When: 7-8 p.m. May 26

Where: Memorial to the Fallen at Veterans Park, 3600 W. Arkansas Lane, Arlington

Admission: Free

Fort Worth Runners Club Memorial Day 5K

Start your Memorial Day with a run held in memory of the fallen through the 5K race and 1K kids fun run. Refreshments will be provided after the race.

When: The 1K begins at 7:45 a.m. and the 5K begins at 8 a.m. May 26, with packet pickup and registration at 7 a.m. and a Memorial Day program at 7:30 a.m. 

Where: Trinity Park Pavilion #1, 2300 W. 7th St., Fort Worth

Admission: $12 for FWRC members, $15 for nonmembers. The kids fun run is free.

Vintage Flying Museum World of Aviation Day and Warbird Ride Day

Fly or drive in to enjoy a pancake breakfast, talk with aviation career schools, try your hand at aircraft maintenance and ride in a PT-19, C-45 or C-47. Attendees can also check out warbird aircraft and modern flight training aircraft. 

When: 9 a.m.-5 p.m. May 24

Where: Vintage Flying Museum, 505 NW 38th St., Hangar 33 South, Fort Worth

Admission: Museum admission is $12 for adults; $10 for teenagers and seniors; $7 for children 6 through 12; and free for children under 6. Rides are for an additional cost depending on the aircraft.
