JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said a man was fatally stabbed in a senior living apartment complex on Tuesday morning.
Shortly after 2 a.m., police said they were called to the Morris Manors Apartments on the city’s Northside, where they found a man with stab wounds on the floor of the lobby.
Detectives said the man walked out of an apartment on the second floor after he was stabbed and collapsed in the complex lobby.
Jacksonville Fire and Rescue said the man died at the scene.
Police add that a woman in her 60s who was inside the apartment at the time of the stabbing was detained.
A man named James, who lives at Morris Manor, said he wasn’t sure what happened when the commotion was going on, similar to many of the complex’s residents who spoke to News4JAX but asked to remain off the record.
James said even though the incident was “scary,” he feels safe returning to his home.
“I don’t feel any way,” he said. “Also comfortable going out and coming in like this evening.”
News4JAX also contacted the facility Tuesday morning, but never received a response. After asking if we could speak to someone at the front office, our crew was asked to leave the premises.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said they believe this is an isolated incident, and are asking that anyone with information to call the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at 904-630-0500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
