HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — Multiple crews are on the scene of a serious crash on Interstate 77 involving an 18-wheeler in Huntersville.
The crash happened around 4 p.m. on northbound I-77 near mile marker 21 at Hambright Road. A car transport truck was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer, causing significant damage to one of the cars on the trailer. In addition, firefighters said the collision caused a major fuel spill.
The Huntersville Fire Department said drivers can expect lengthy delays on northbound I-77 through Monday evening’s commute. The agency posted several photos of the scene on X, highlighting the damage caused by the collision. It’s unclear if any injuries have been reported.
NCDOT said the express lanes will be available free of charge while crews work to clear the fuel spill. All three general-purpose lanes on I-77 North are closed due to the cleanup.
