A man died after an MBTA commuter rail train collided with a pick-up truck in Cohasset on Saturday morning, according to the town’s police department.
The crash occurred at the Beechwood Street railroad crossing, with officers dispatched to the area at about 11:20 a.m., according to a press release from the department.
A 78-year-old man suffered traumatic injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The man was not identified as of Sunday.
The pick-up truck involved in the crash was a 2015 GMC, which was a total loss due to the impact of the collision, police said.
Multiple witnesses told Boston 25 that they heard the collision in their homes on Saturday morning.
At 4:30 p.m., Beechwood Street was clear and reopened to the public, police said.
As of Saturday, the incident is under investigation by the MBTA Transit Police, Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office, and the Cohasset Police Department.
A spokesman for the Massachusetts State Police and the Norfolk County District Attorney’s office, detectives for the MBTA Transit Police and the chief of the Cohasset Police Department were not available for comment on Sunday.
This is the second MBTA commuter rail crash in four days that has resulted in a fatality.
On Wednesday, April 30, a woman was killed after she drove an SUV onto Commuter Rail train tracks in Abington. The SUV collided with the train, according to authorities.
