A man is accused of slashing the tires of dozens of vehicles at the Ballantyne Publix on Saturday.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man is facing charges after police alleged he slashed dozens of tires in the parking lot of a Publix supermarket in Ballantyne on Saturday.
Darren Anthony Ransom, 30, is accused of vandalizing 40 vehicles at the Publix in Ballantyne Town Center on May 3. According to a police report, witnesses claim Ransom was attacking cars in the parking lot for about 20 minutes until police arrived. Ransom was arrested at a nearby restaurant.
Ransom was scheduled to appear in court on Monday, but refused to show up for his hearing. He faces 40 counts of injury to personal property. He’s scheduled to appear in court again on Aug. 29.
Multiple videos posted on social media showing a person slashing tires in a parking lot went viral. WCNC Charlotte hasn’t confirmed that the person in the video is Ransom. CMPD hasn’t released any further information on the investigation at this time. Another business near the Publix was also targeted, with two employees having their tires slashed. The store owner provided a video to WCNC Charlotte showing a man stabbing tires on two SUVs in front of the building.


WCNC Charlotte’s Jesse Pierre also spoke to a person whose car was targeted at Publix. The victim’s car had three flat tires and was towed away from the store on Monday.
