A man is dead after a shooting in West Philadelphia on Tuesday night, according to a spokesperson with the police department.

The shooting happened just before 9 p.m. on the 5900 block of Ludlow Street, police said.

Phillip Jackson was taken to a nearby hospital by officers where he was pronounced dead just after 9 p.m., officials said. The West Philly resident was 47 years old.

No arrests have been made in this shooting.

If you have any information, please call the Homicide Unit at 215-686-3334.

A violent night in Philadelphia

At least eight people were shot in four separate shootings — including this one — in Philadelphia Tuesday night.

The other shootings included a triple shooting drive-by in North Philadelphia, a “very brazen shooting” at a Frankford playground where a teen was hurt and a triple shooting in Grays Ferry, police said.

Entering Wednesday, at least 62 people had been killed in Philadelphia, according to police data. The year-to-date homicide total is down nearly 29% from last year and the lowest since at least 2008.
