It happened around 3 a.m. Saturday near Goldmine Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
MONROE, N.C. — A suspect the Monroe Police Department said shot an officer early Saturday morning has been killed by police, according to officials.
Police said a female officer was shot while chasing the suspect sometime around 3 a.m. She’s in the hospital and her condition is stable, according to a 4:45 a.m. update.
The department said its Special Response Team was searching for the suspect near the area around Goldmine Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Just before 5 a.m., officials confirmed one suspect has been shot and killed by police. The department did not publicly identify the suspect.
Neighbors were asked to avoid the area as the investigation continues. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard was closed between Old Charlotte Hwy and Goldmine Rd. Goldmine Rd. was closed between River Chase Dr. and N. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Monroe is located about 26 miles southeast of Charlotte.
This remains an active, ongoing investigation. The Monroe Police Department said it will continue to provide updates as the situation develops.
Police are not looking for any other suspects at this time, officials said.
