Tory Lanez, the rapper convicted of shooting Megan Thee Stallion, was hospitalized Monday, May 12, after being stabbed in a prison. The incident occurred inside a California correctional facility.
Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, is currently serving a 10-year sentence for shooting and injuring the Grammy-winning rapper, born Megan Pete, in 2020.
Prison confirms incident
The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation confirmed the stabbing took place inside a housing unit. According to TMZ, who first reported the incident, staff responded quickly and provided first aid at the scene.
Peterson was transported to a hospital for additional treatment. According to a post on Peterson’s Instagram Monday evening, he was stabbed 14 times. The update claims both of his lungs collapsed and that he was placed on a breathing apparatus –– though he is now reportedly breathing on his own and talking.
Conflict with Meg Thee Stallion
Peterson officially began his sentence in September 2023, receiving 305 days of credit for time already served. The shooting occurred following a pool party at media personality Kylie Jenner’s home, sparking a years-long legal battle between the two artists.
Since then, the public feud between Pete and Peterson has played out both in court and on social media.
Pete currently has a restraining order against Peterson, which was extended in January through 2030. She has stated that she fears what may happen after his release.
She also alleges ongoing harassment from behind bars, including Peterson and his supporters spreading misinformation online about the shooting.
Conviction and charge
Peterson was convicted on three felony gun charges, including assault with a semiautomatic firearm. Despite the verdict, he maintains he is innocent.
