A man awaiting trial on a murder charge is on the run after cutting off his ankle monitor, and multiple police agencies are now searching for him.

According to Kaufman County court records, Trevor McEuen, 32, was set to appear in court Monday to face trial on a murder charge. Authorities allege he shot and killed his neighbor, Aaron Martinez, in 2023 near Forney. Martinez’s family has said McEuen made racist comments toward Martinez and his family and drove past their home and pointed a gun at them.

The family has called for the killing to be investigated as a hate crime.

According to a news release from the Kaufman County sheriff’s office, McEuen cut off his ankle monitor at about 5:30 a.m. Monday and fled his residence. Police said they were searching for him in Van Zandt County.

Authorities have offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to McEuen’s capture. Police said they are not sure whether he is armed and have cautioned the public not to approach him.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Kaufman County sheriff’s office at 469-376-4500. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Kaufman County Crime Stoppers at 1-877-847-7522.

Jerry Tidwell, the managing partner of the law firm representing McEuen, said McEuen and his attorneys were looking forward to responding to “all allegations” at trial.

“We are very hopeful for a peaceful resolution of this matter,” Tidwell said.
