The suspect is unknown and has not been located.
Glendale police released the photo below of a man in the area around the time of the incident. Investigators are looking to speak with him.
He’s described as a Hispanic male, bald, wearing a grey long-sleeved shirt, black pants, and black shoes with white soles.
“My sister did not deserve to be maliciously killed,” said Linda Lopez, Judy’s sister.
Family members say Lopez was on her way to visit her mother ahead of a family member’s surprise party when the attack occurred. Her family told ABC15 Judy was found with her bag, but her phone was missing.
“She just never made it. She never got off the bus,” said Sandy Florez, Lopez’s cousin.
Lopez’s family remembers her for her quick wit, sharp humor and giving spirit. They shared stories of her cooking for family and even strangers.
“She never ever looked down at anybody. She always made sure that everybody had something,” Linda said.
The family expressed gratitude to the anonymous person who stopped to help Lopez and called 911 Monday night. While it didn’t save her life, it brought her family some peace knowing she had someone to help her and provide some company during her life’s final moments.
Investigators are asking anyone who was in the area to come forward with information. Glendale Police Department can be reached at 623-930-3000.
