The reason for the suspension remains unclear.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The principal of Ardrey Kell High School, Jamie Brooks, has been suspended with pay, according to newly obtained public records.
Documents obtained through a public records request reveal Brooks was suspended on May 2. However, the reason for the suspension remains unclear, and officials have not indicated when she is expected to return to her position.
Brooks has been at Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools since 1994. She was the principal at Community House Middle School from 2008 until being appointed principal of Ardrey Kell High School. She was an assistant principal at Ardrey Kell from 2007 to 2008 and at Mint Hill Middle School from 2003 to 2007. Brooks was also a teacher at Carmel Middle School from 1994 to 2000.
The high school’s previous principal, David Switzer, was suspended in June of 2020 following allegations of misconduct and later reassigned.

Brooks was named a defendant in a 2024 lawsuit involving a student who was injured during an allegedly unsupervised track practice. Records show that the lawsuit was dismissed in March.

Earlier this year, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg NAACP called for clarity after the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department declined to file hate crime charges in an incident that seriously injured a student.
It was not immediately clear if any of these incidents played a role in the suspension of Brooks. WCNC Charlotte is working to learn additional information about the nature of her suspension.
