SEATTLE — Rite Aid is set to close an additional 14 stores in the Northwest as part of its ongoing bankruptcy proceedings.
The drugstore chain, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last week, initially planned to shutter 47 stores, including six in Washington and Oregon. However, updated documents released Friday expanded the closure list to include 68 more stores across seven states, with 14 of those in Oregon and Washington.

Rite Aid is preparing for another round of store closures, following a significant downsizing after the company’s bankruptcy filing in October 2023 – which reduced its number of stores from over 2,300 to about 1,200 in 15 states.’
The company plans to sell customer prescription files, inventory and other assets as it closes distribution centers and unloads store locations. Stores will remain open for now, but the company isn’t buying new inventory so bare shelves are likely become more common.
Rite Aid says operations will continue for a few months for most of its stores. All locations will eventually close or be sold to a new owner.
Until then, customers will still be able to fill prescriptions, get immunizations, and shop in the stores or online.
Additionally, Rite Aid has secured $1.94 billion in new financing to maintain operations during this period, ensuring employees continue to receive pay and benefits.
