COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — This weekend, Historic Crew Stadium will be packed with fans for a rock music festival that promises to deliver the best the genre has to offer.
Attendees are excited to be part of Sonic Temple, with Jackson Cooper expressing, “I just feel at home here,” and Cam Smith adding, “I’m amazed at the lineup every year, and I’ll keep coming back.”
Friendships are being forged over the shared love of music.
Scott Hoyer, who attended the festival the previous night, said, “I came last night, it was great, and I just met Cam an hour ago.” Smith, who traveled from South Dakota, said, “I fly out of here next Tuesday, turn it into a mini vacation.”
Cooper with a spiked Mohawk told us his inspiration behind it, saying it’s because of “Punk rock, I love it, it’s been my life since I was a little kid, and just doing what I wanted to do.”
Event organizers anticipate that around 160,000 people will attend over the four-day festival.
Chamie McCurry, General Manager of Danny Wimmer Presents, said, “Just being able to unite rock fans from all over the United States and internationally in Columbus, Ohio, to celebrate this music is something we’re passionate about and something we work on all year long to bring it to fruition.”
Safety is a top priority, with Columbus Police and other agencies on hand to ensure a secure environment. McCurry said, “We work with Columbus Police, Ohio State Highway Patrol, on-site security, Homeland Security. We have a very extensive safety plan, we meet regularly throughout the year, and safety is our number one priority.”
