San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan is endorsing Anthony Tordillos in the upcoming runoff election for the District 3 seat on the City Council.
Mahan announced his endorsement of Tordillos, chair of the San Jose Planning Commission, Friday in Politico’s daily newsletter. The pair are holding a news conference at San Pedro Square Market at 11 a.m. to talk about their shared priorities.
“He is free thinking, data-driven and committed to figuring out what will work,” Mahan told Politico.
Mahan previously endorsed Matthew Quevedo, his deputy chief of staff, who was knocked out of the April 8 special election after a recount put Tordillos in second place by six votes.
“Mayor Mahan and I don’t agree on every issue. But coming from the world of tech, we share a belief that data should drive policy discussions, and elected officials should be evaluated by the results they deliver on housing, homelessness and crime,” Tordillos previously told San José Spotlight.
Tordillos will face off against Gabby Chavez-Lopez, executive director of the Latina Coalition of Silicon Valley, in a June 24 runoff election.
