There were no handshakes in Winnipeg on Thursday night. The Dallas Stars were shut out 4-0 in Game 5 against the Jets, bringing the series back to Dallas for a Game 6.
The Stars were unable to solve Connor Hellebuyck in Winnipeg for the second straight time, as Hellebuyck pitched an identical 4-0 shutout in Game 2.
Now, the Stars have two more chances to close the Jets out and punch their ticket to the Western Conference finals to face the Oilers, who eliminated the Golden Knights on Wednesday night.

Game updates
End of the third period
Jets 4, Stars 0
With Jake Oettinger pulled from the game, Nikolaj Ehlers capitalized on the empty net with 45 seconds left in the game.
It put an exclamation mark on a dominant Game 5 victory for Winnipeg and set the stage for Game 6 back in Dallas.
6:32 left in third period: A big scrum involving Jamie Benn and Mark Scheifele resulted in several penalties being handed out. Scheifele got two minutes for roughing while Winnipeg’s Brandon Tanev got a two-minute minor for roughing and a 10-minute game misconduct penalty. Benn was handed a two-minute roughing penalty and a 10-minute game misconduct.
After all those penalties, the Stars were put on a two-minute power play. Benn landed quite the punch on Scheifele in the process.
Jets 3, Stars 0
Vladislav Namestnikov beats Jake Oettinger near the end of the power play with 7:53 left in the third period. It likely puts the game on ice, and it appears a Game 6 will take place at American Airlines Center on Saturday.
9:43 left in the third period: During a scrum behind the net, Lian Bichsel was called for roughing and the Jets will go back on the power play.
11:55 left in the third period: Dallas came up empty after generating a couple of shots on goal during the power play.
13:55 left in the third period: Winnipeg’s Mason Appleton is called for a two-minute minor penalty for hooking as he took down Roope Hintz. The Stars have been given an opportunity to get back in the game.
Jets 2, Stars 0
Nikolaj Ehlers stuffed one past Jake Oettinger with 17:40 left in the third period during the two-man advantage. Making matters worse for the Stars, there is still time left over on Lindell’s penalty, so the power play continues.
18:10 left in the third period: Esa Lindell is called for another tripping penalty and the Stars will have to kill 1:47 of 5-on-3 time. The salt in the wound is that Lindell is Dallas’ top penalty killer.
18:21 left in the third period: Alexander Petrovic is called for tripping and the Dallas penalty kill will again be called upon to keep the Stars in the game.
End of the second period
If you were saying the Stars were lucky to be in a scoreless tie after the first period, you’re probably saying they are lucky to only be down 1-0 to the Jets through two periods.
Dallas has been unable to generate any consistent offensive pressure and Jake Oettinger is keeping the Stars in the game almost on his own. Through two periods, Dallas is being outshot 22-9.
According to Natural Stat Trick, the expected goals are 1.07-0.74 in favor of the Jets.
52.6 seconds left in second period: Mark Scheifele finished off a mad scramble around Jake Oettinger by finding the back of the net, but the goal didn’t count as he knocked the puck into the net with his hand.
The Stars somehow survived a massive wave of pressure thanks to three saves from Oettinger, with one of them happening while he was facing the wrong way.
2:31 left in the second period: Just when the Stars were building some momentum, Mason Marchment is called for holding. The Stars’ penalty kill will look to keep the deficit at 0-1.
3:19 left in the second period: The Stars just registered their best chance yet as Tyler Seguin beat Connor Hellebuyck, but the puck hit the crossbar.
5:25 left in the second period: The Stars are really struggling to create sustainable pressure as they search for an equalizing goal. Dallas has just nine shots through nearly 35 minutes of hockey.
Jets 1, Stars 0
Connor Hellebuyck made a terrific play on one end, and Mark Scheifele gets a terrific bounce for the Jets on the other end. Scheifele fired a shot in and it deflected directly off Thomas Harley’s skate and into the net with 13:43 left in the second period.
14:25 left in the second period: Matt Duchene was called for interference and Winnipeg’s Vladislav Namestnikov was called for high-sticking, setting up two minutes of four-on-four time.
Will either team capitalize on the extra space on the ice?
End of the first period
The Stars are probably lucky to be in a scoreless tie at the first intermission. Winnipeg handily outshot Dallas 11-4 and Jake Oettinger had to work much harder than Connor Hellebuyck did.
High-danger chances in the first period were 5-2 in favor of the Jets and expected goals were 0.80-0.49 Winnipeg, according to Natural Stat Trick.
4:25 left in the first period: The Stars once again came up empty on the power play, tallying just one shot on goal from Miro Heiskanen.
6:25 left in the first period: Winnipeg’s Cole Perfetti has been called for interference and the Stars’ power play will have another chance to grab an early lead.
12:05 left in the first period: The Stars controlled the puck in the offensive zone for quite a bit and put some pressure on the Jets, but were unable to cash in their power play opportunity.
14:05 left in first period: Winnipeg’s Adam Lowry is called for cross-checking and the Stars will have a two-minute power play opportunity.
15:11 left in the first period: The Dallas penalty kill once again came up big, killing off yet another Winnipeg power play.
17:11 left in the first period: Sam Steel has been called for a two-minute minor penalty for holding. The Stars’ penalty kill will need to keep up its strong work so far this series.
Off the first faceoff of the Winnipeg power play, Kyle Connor got a fantastic chance in the slot but Jake Oettinger stopped it.
