STATESVILLE, N.C. — A 25-year-old Statesville man died early Sunday morning in an off-road vehicle crash, according to the NC State Highway Patrol.
The crash happened around 1:30 a.m. on Saw Mills Road near Union Grove Road in Iredell County.
Seth Allen Paynter was driving an off-road vehicle northwest on Saw Mills Road when he lost control of the vehicle, investigators said. The off-road vehicle crossed the center line, ran off the left side of the road and overturned.
Paynter, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene from his injuries, officials said.
Highway Patrol officials say alcohol appears to be a contributing factor in the crash, based on their initial investigation.
The crash investigation closed Saw Mills Road for approximately two hours.
