Police announced the arrest of a suspect connected to the Harris Teeter arson in Charlotte.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the fire that damaged a Harris Teeter grocery store in north Charlotte earlier this month, officials announced on Friday.
The blaze, which broke out on the night of May 10 at the Harris Teeter located in a shopping center along Davis Lake Parkway, has been determined to be arson, according to Charlotte Fire Department investigators.
CMPD said it’s not identifying the suspect due to their age. No further details about their arrest have been released.
The fire began around 9:20 p.m. when Charlotte Fire responded to the grocery store, initially declaring a two-alarm fire before upgrading to a third alarm. Nearly 100 firefighters battled the flames for 90 minutes before bringing the situation under control.
The fire was concentrated on one side of the store, to the left of the main entrance.
Officials report the grocery store sustained significant fire and water damage, with initial estimates placing the damage at approximately $500,000.
Fortunately, no civilians or firefighters were hurt.
