Suspect hurt after jumping off Puyallup overpass following chase with Sumner police
SUMNER and PUYALLUP, Wash. — A man is in the hospital after a police chase from Sumner to Puyallup that ended with a suspect jumping off an overpass, according to police.
Sumner police said that on Tuesday at 9:18 p.m., a driver nearly caused a head-on collision with a Sumner officer when he swerved on Valley Avenue.
The car continued heading south on Valley in the northbound lane.

Because the officer suspected the driver was impaired, they started pursuing the car. The chase continued onto westbound State Route 410 and then westbound State Route 512.
On SR 512 in Puyallup, the car hit two other vehicles. At that point, the suspect, a 36-year-old man, jumped out of his car, crossed all lanes of traffic and jumped off the highway overpass.
He landed near Pioneer Avenue.
Medics from Central Pierce Fire & Rescue arrived and took the driver to the hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.
A man who was in one of the vehicles that was hit was taken to Tacoma General Hospital, also with non-life-threatening injuries.
Westbound SR 512 was closed between SR 167 and Pioneer Avenue. It has since reopened.
