Traffic on I-77 near Mooresville faced major disruptions Saturday morning after two crashes within hours.
MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Traffic was snarled on I-77 near Mooresville on Saturday morning due to two crashes.
Interstate 77 near Mooresville experienced significant traffic disruptions Saturday morning after two separate crashes occurred within hours of each other, affecting both northbound and southbound lanes.
The first crash was reported at around 8:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes near NC-150 (Mile Marker 38) in Iredell County. Highway Patrol confirmed that the left lane was closed approximately two miles past Exit 36. With only one of two lanes operational, officials warned motorists to expect high traffic impact throughout the morning commute.
While crews were still managing the northbound incident, a second crash happened in the southbound lanes around 10:30 a.m. in the same vicinity. This crash, located at Mile Marker 38 near US-21, resulted in a complete closure of all southbound lanes past Exit 42, but is now only causing a closure of the shoulder.


Local officials recommended motorists consider using Highway 115 or other local roads to bypass the affected sections of I-77.
