GAINESVILLE, Fla. – UF Health and United Healthcare signed a new multi-year agreement that starts on Monday.
Patients with United Healthcare insurance can now return to UF Health, as the two companies have resolved their previous disputes.
The original deadline ended on Sept. 1, 2024, but it resulted in a stalemate.
United Healthcare blamed UF Health for proposing a 30% price hike over two years and a more than 20% rate increase in one year.
UF Health stated that United offered commercial rates that were “below general inflation and far below rising annual costs,” leaving affected patients uncertain about their health care options.
The agreement reinstates UF Health hospitals and physicians within the United provider umbrella. It also restores network access to UF Health Flagler Hospital for individuals enrolled in United Healthcare Medicare Advantage plans, including Dual Special Needs Plans.
“This new agreement ensures that thousands of United patients will continue to have access to quality health care throughout Northeast, North Central, and Central Florida,” said Dr. Stephen J. Motew, president and CEO of UF Health. “We appreciate the patience of our communities and acknowledge the efforts of our health care team.”
Patients enrolled in the following plans will have network access to all UF Health hospitals, facilities, and physicians starting Monday:
United Healthcare employer-sponsored commercial plans
United Healthcare Community Plan of Florida (Medicaid)
All other UF Health hospitals and physicians throughout the state will continue to participate in United Healthcare’s Medicare Advantage network.
Anyone with questions or in need of assistance is encouraged to call the number on their health plan ID card.
