A Pittsfield man who was struck and killed by a car in the city late last month is being remembered for his successful career in business management.
Shawn Ouillette, 62, was walking on the northbound side of Barker Road on April 28 when a car heading in the same direction struck him around 2:40 p.m., the Pittsfield Police Department said previously. He was rushed to a hospital where he later died.
Ouillette was born in Caribou, Maine, on Nov. 6, 1962, to Richard and Theresa Marquis Ouillette, according to his obituary. He graduated salutatorian from Caribou High School in 1981.
Ouillette continued his education at the University of Maine in Orono and earned a bachelor’s degree in management, according to his obituary. He started his managerial career with Ames Department Stores, which soon relocated him to Berkshire County.
Ouillette was employed by Excelsior Integrated — a Lee-based product logistics company — for over 31 years, according to his obituary. He recently became the company’s CEO.
Ouilette enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting, fishing and skiing, according to his obituary. He was also a lifelong Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan.
“Shawn will forever be remembered by his infectious smile, his funny dad jokes and his enthusiasm for life,” his obituary reads.
Ouilette also loved listening to many genres of music — especially artists such as Bruce Springsteen and Alan Jackson — and attending their concerts, according to his obituary.
“He spent many summers on the beaches of Maine and Rhode Island, never turning down a craft beer or seafood dinner. There was no activity he didn’t love doing, as long as he was surrounded by his friends and family, he was truly happy. Most of all, he loved spending time with his furry best friend, Whaler,” his obituary reads.
Ouilette is survived by his wife of 34 years, his two daughters, five siblings and many other beloved friends and relatives, according to his obituary. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that donations in his memory be made to The Red Sox Foundation at www.redsoxfoundation.org.
