The Western Massachusetts boys volleyball tournament began on Tuesday, May 20. Send missing results to [email protected].

Class A

No. 1 Agawam (3), No. 4 Springfield Central (1)

On Tuesday night Agawam won their 14th straight game, a semifinals matchup with Springfield Central.

The last time the two teams faced off, Agawam earned the sweep, but Central kept it close all night on Tuesday.

After dropping the first set, Central tied things up in the second. Although Agawam took the next two, it two extra points in the fourth to put things away.

Once Agawam finished off the fourth, 28-26, they secured their spot in the Class A tournament finals.

In the victory over Central, three players, Joseph Culhane, Timothy Karcha, and Dennis Nesen, finished with double digit kills.

David Dzhenzherukha was the engine behind the offense, totaling 48 assists in the victory.

Agawam will next face No. 2 Westfield in the tournament final. Agawam took both regular season matchups, sweeping the most recent one on May 6.

No. 2 Westfield (3), No. 3 West Springfield (0)

For the third time this year, the Bombers took down the Terriers. Tuesday night’s matchup was the most important of the season however, as Westfield swept West Side in the semifinals of the Western Mass. Tournament.

While the Terriers kept each set close, the Bombers took home the sweep and didn’t have to go to extra points in any of the sets.

Leading Westfield in kills was Zach Kukharchuk who tallied 10. He also finished with the most digs on the team with 12.

Max Yurtuc did much of the setting up for the Bombers on Tuesday, tallying 16 assists in the victory.

Defensively, Jake Satkowski and Bogdan Kuzin each finished with 2.5 blocks.

For the Terriers, Aleksander Bak tallied 14 kills and six digs in the loss. Prasanta Bhandari finished with 35 assists for the visitors.
