YORK, S.C. — A York Intermediate School employee has been charged with assaulting a student, according to the York Police Department on Friday.
Alan Pryor, 53, turned himself in to police after a fight with a student at the school on Johnson Road, officials said. He faces a charge of assault and battery in the third degree.
A student reported the alleged assault to school officials last week. The school immediately called the School Resource Officer, who contacted detectives.
Security cameras captured what happened in the school cafeteria and courtyard. The video shows Pryor taking a student from the cafeteria outside to the courtyard, police said. The two got into a confrontation.
During the argument, Pryor pushed the student backward, according to a police incident report. He then chased the student, causing the student to fall down twice, the report adds.
York School District One worked with police during the investigation. After reviewing the case, the prosecutor’s office approved charges against Pryor.
Pryor surrendered to the York Police Department and was taken to the Moss Justice Center. He will await a bond hearing. His court date has not yet been set.
Police Chief Brian Trail thanked the school district for reporting it quickly and cooperating with the investigation.
